What Is A Corporate Secretary And Why Do You Need One In Singapore?

In Singapore, you simply can’t operate without a CoSec/Corp Sec (corporate secretary, or a company secretary, you can use either term interchangeably). Under the Singapore Companies Act, the corporate secretary must be a Singaporean resident and cannot double as a director of your company.

You need to appoint this role within six months of incorporation, and if you’re a listed company, your secretary needs to have considerable experience – at least 3-5 years. This very specific sort of person is not always easy to find, especially if you’re new to Singapore.

But what exactly is a CoSec? What do they do? Accela Finance & Corporate Secretary answer your questions here.
